Sequintastic September!

Welcome to another Saturday at Saturday Sequins!

Today is a super special Saturday... because it's the day of the Sequintastic September blog hop!

Here's my project, a work in progress that will eventually be a collar.

This piece features sequins in neutral/earth tones, seed beads, Chinese crystal beads, and more cabochons than I've ever used on a single necklace.

And even though this piece is all about the sparklies, I thought I'd mention that the larger cabs came from The Idea Store of all places, and the smaller ones were given to me by Skylar, who is twenty kinds of awesome (at least). I'm so happy that I finally found the right home for them!

(And in case you're curious, the foundation is Nicole's BeadBacking. Awesome stuff.)

As you can see, I have a lot of beading left to do! This piece has been very improvisational, so I'm not sure what will happen next. The only thing I know for sure is, I'll continue with the turquoise and earth tones. Oh, and also? I'll avoid the fearful symmetry. Stitching the stones in more-or-less the same pattern is enough for me.

So that's what I came up with. Now I hope you'll join me in visiting the rest of the participants! I'm seriously excited to see what they made.

Sequintastically yours,

Sarah J. Sequins

    1. Thank you, Therese! I'll post the finished piece as soon as it's done, and there may be some additional WIP photos before then. I woke up today just itching to work on it some more.

(And also to eat chocolate. I've only done one of these so far.)

I'm so glad you had fun -- your project is awesome!

    1. Aww, thank you!

When I picked out the colors I was excited, but at the same time, a little anxious. I was afraid the piece would be too subdued. But I like it so far, and I figure, nothing with this much sparkle could be subdued. :)

  4. Oh dear, guess who got the dates wrong! Editing photos and writing right now as I really wanted to make something for this occasion. But enough about goldfish brain me, let's look at your work (before getting back to working on my reveal post)!

The colour looks great so far and I'm guessing it'll look fab once finished. The colour scheme is lovely and so is the mix of beads and sequins. Can't wait to see the finished collar!

    1. As someone who is terrible -- absolutely horrible -- with dates, I understand. But not to worry, you'll get your post done, and I'm sure it will be wonderful.

Thanks, Maneki! I'll be excited to finish this piece. I just thought of something I could do with the edge beads and some briolettes. Even if it doesn't work out, it'll be fun to experiment.

  5. this is a masterpiece! it is going to be stunning!!!!! I'm so sorry that I missed your hop this year! I was away when you did the post for people to sign up, so I missed it. :( But in other news ... I have discovered a love of metal sequins - and they have been showing up in my pieces! I bought them thinking "oh! I'll have to do a piece for Sarah's hop!" and then I missed it!

But here's an idea. How would you like to be a featured artist? I'd love to see what you've been doing with metal sequins and to share your work here. Let me know what you think!

    1. Aw, yay!!! Thank you, Karen.

Meeting in person would be so much fun. I could bring the bead creatures, too. They could hang out with your fancy fish. Maybe at Bead and Button if you're going next year?
