A Year of Sequins!
Today is a special day for Saturday Sequins -- my blog is exactly a year old!
When I wrote that first blog post, I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do. I wanted to make friends in the jewelry making community, share my work, and show the world what sequins can really do. I also wanted to get over my huge fear of social networking.
(OK, it was more like a phobia. Or a... is there a word stronger than phobia?)
I just didn't know if I could do it. Would I enjoy blogging, or would it be another time vacuum? Would anyone notice me, or would I write long, sparkly letters to myself, and just myself?
Since that first post, I've created and shared work that I'm proud of and that's taken me out of my comfort zone. I've discovered two new loves, bead embroidery and freeform bead weaving. I've also given wire weaving a try, done my very first tutorial, participated in two blog hops, been interviewed in a few places, had some work rejected and gotten past it, done my first craft show, met people who love sequins as much as I do, and tweaked my About page approximately a bazillion times.
Sometimes it's hard not to look at all the things I do and think... that's not enough. To read about people who get a million blog hits in the first month and wonder what I could do better. But those moments don't happen when I remember to have fun and write what I'm passionate about, and they happen less and less as I commit myself to doing things my way.
bead embroidery resources post. And there are a ton of non-bloggy things I want to do and share with all of you, including a super duper top secret project. It's time to move from thinking about my dreams to acting on them!
So that's where I started and where I want to be. Your turn: is there anything you'd like to see on Saturday Sequins? I'd love your input!
Thanks for joining me, whether you were there from the beginning, found me halfway through, or are reading this for the first time. And as always, have a sequintastic day!
