You might remember this piece, my very first beaded collar.

Well, this was my first entry! Mr. Sequin took photos of it from different angles...
And did some closeups to show the detail.
And now it has a name! I call it Red Galaxy. The sequins remind me of little planets floating in outer space, which makes the larger beads asteroids and meteors. The second piece is one I've reworked a few times. I've finally gotten it to the point where I know it's finished, and where it looks the way it was meant to. And... here it is!
This piece is called Icicles. The chain maille flowers look like snowflakes, and the holographic sequins remind me of ice crystals.
All of the chain was handmade by me with supplies from Blue Buddha Boutique.
I'm proud of both of these pieces, and I know that whether I place or not, they're a reflection of my best work to date. I'm also relieved! To go with the galaxy theme, I've sent these pieces (or more accurately, photos) out into The Universe, and things are out of my hands. I'm free to move on to the next things on my list.
And what's next for Saturday Sequins? More beaded collars, pieces for a craft show in April, pieces for a creative reuse show in September, and some top secret sequin experiments that have me very excited.
How about you? Are you submitting to Bead Dreams? Post a link to your work in the comments! I'm sure we could all use a good dose of inspiration and eye candy.
Have a sequintastic day!
PS: And since it's Saturday, that means eye candy from Artists in Blogland!
Congratulations on entering! That's a huge accomplishment and both pieces are lovely. And I agree...whether you win or not, you've met the challenge and sent something out into the Universe...which gives you WAY better odds than if you sent nothing...Bravo!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan! I'm flattered. <3
DeleteYes, the odds really are way better than if I didn't send them! And if I don't place, I'll just increase those odds by submitting elsewhere.
YAY! Red Galaxy, hooray!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Audrey! I do believe you've just come up with my Contest Cheer. :)*
Delete*No cartwheels expected of any of us. Last time I tried one, I sprained my wrist.
I love Icicles! It is so beautiful! I'm not surprised, everything you do is gorgeous! Good luck on your entries.
ReplyDeleteAwww, Melissa! Thank you! You're a gem. <3

ReplyDeleteCarol
Thank you, Carol! :)
DeleteI can't wait to show you what I've been up to. I finished the beading portion of my latest project, and soon it'll be ready for gluing, sewing and fringe-ing.
Congrats on entering the contest your pieces are beautiful. Best wishes to you.
ReplyDeleteTherese
Thank you so much, Therese! :)
DeleteLovely pieces, they're sure to do well.
ReplyDeleteEmma, thank you!!! <3
DeleteI think I'd faint from excitement if they did well. The prizes are great and all, but the best part would be seeing my piece in the glass display case with all those other amazing artists.
Your work is just gorgeous! That beaded collar is beyond words.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Roberta! That means a lot. <3
DeleteStill so proud of the first one and the second on is so pretty!! Good luck with the competition!

Thank you, Kat! Your compliments mean a lot to me. <3
DeleteGood luck to you, too! And thanks for posting your link!
Congrats, Sarah!! Isn't it nice to just jump in and do it? You'll do great, I have no doubt. Both pieces are awesome. I esp. like Icicles, but the collar is stunning, too. :)
ReplyDeleteTela
It really does feel nice to just jump in like that. Sp much better than saying I'm going to do it and then making excuses not to -- been there, done that!
DeleteThanks, Tela!
Absolutely stunning work:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary Ann!
DeleteYour work is amazing! I wish you all good luck in the contest.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll win you have great designs and pieces.
Thanks for your nice comments on my blog. I appreciate it.
Have a nice Sunday.
Thank you so much, Denni! So many fantastically talented people enter every year, so if I do win, it'll be a huge honor!
DeleteYou're very welcome! You wrote things I could truly relate to. *Hugs.*
Icicles. Absolutely beautiful necklace!! Stunning. Never have seen anything like it before. Where do I go to vote!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! <3
DeleteWhat a sweet offer to vote for me! The contest winners are decided by vote, though. But I really appreciate the offer. :)
I absolutely love those icicles! If you don't win something, there's something wrong!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Andrea!
DeleteThere are so many incredibly, insanely talented people who enter this contest every year. So if I don't win, I'll be sad, but I'll know that I lost to some fantastic pieces -- and I'll step up my game for next year!
I can't decide...so I like them both! Sending you all the best and hope your entries will be recognized as they are truly amazing and works of art!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Chandra! I like both of them, too -- they're so different from each other, and each one is pretty in its own way. :)
DeleteThat beaded collar is awesome, but I particular like the chainmaille. For some reason, it makes me think of math.
ReplyDeleteI love that the chain maille makes you think of math! Before it was Icicles, it was Atoms. Nice and sciency. :)
DeleteYour projects are absolutely amazing! I could never have the patience to complete something like that. Good luck in the contest!!

Thank you, Linda! I'll admit, there were times when I thought I wasn't going to complete the collar. That's when taking a break comes in handy. :)
DeleteThey are both gorgeous, but Icicle is my favorite! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI really do love all those holographic sequins on Icicles. I had to use the entire bag of them, so next time I order I'll be getting about 10 of them. ;)
Here's another Bead Dreams entry by my friend at Good Quill Hunting.
ReplyDeletehttp://goodquillhunting.wordpress.com/2012/03/06/winter-moon-fairy-bead-dreams-submission/
It's gorgeous and so unique! I expect to see her piece behind that glass display case, and if I don't I shall complain most sternly. ;)
